Challenging Women’s Fitness Advice Around the Menstrual Cycle
A review by scientists from McMaster University, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Australian Catholic University finds little evidence supporting advice on women's diet, training and supplements during the menstrual cycles. Sparse research on women and exercise, coupled with substantial hormonal variations, challenges the notion of standard menstrual cycles. The study emphasizes the need for individualized training approaches and calls for more high-quality research on women's physiology and sports performance.
Mai Wageh and Alysha D'Souza, doctoral candidates at McMaster University and co-lead authors, spoke to Junior Science Editor Rhianna-lily Smith from Technology Networks to discuss the findings of their review.
