The more I read about the continuing fall in the cost of genome sequencing the more I am amazed at the rate of progress that is being made. With the long-time target, the $1000 genome, seen as achievable by the end of the year personalised medicine gets closer and closer.
It is interesting then to hear how the complete genome sequencing of “Otzi’ Italy’s prehistoric iceman is helping us learn more about our past. Especially revealing is his very modern predisposition for cardiovascular diseases and lactose intolerance.
