Millions of Long-Term Smokers Have Lung Diseases That Defy Diagnosis

A study led by University of California San Francisco researchers revealed that many Americans with tobacco-related lung symptoms do not fit existing tobacco-related disease criteria. Despite significant tobacco exposure, half of the participants had respiratory symptoms, but presented normal chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder test results.
