Job Description
Technology Networks (a LabX Media Group Company) is looking for a Science Writer & Editor who will play a pivotal role in developing the company’s editorial mission. Based in the UK, the Science Writer & Editor will pitch stories, cover breaking news, source relevant news releases, produce a variety of original content and proof externally contributed articles.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a real eye for detail. They will be self-motivated and able to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while working as part of a team as well as independently with minimum supervision. They must have an excellent understanding of scientific web communication and be able to produce engaging content that resonates with Technology Networks’ audience of over 1 million visitors every month. A desire to learn about the latest scientific breakthroughs and techniques is critical to the role.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
• Work with the in-house news team to cover breaking science news
• Write articles and produce original content that satisfies the curiosity of our scientific audience
• Proofread and edit a variety of content
• Support the creation of a variety of multimedia content including infographics, webinars and videos
• Source high-quality scientific content (breaking news, press releases, current research and lighter attention-grabbing content)
• Undertake interviews with academic scientists and industry experts
• Work with our social media team to share content on Technology Networks’ Facebook pages and LinkedIn
• Implement SEO strategies and create/commission evergreen content to optimize content visibility and search engine rankings.
Experience:
• 1+ years of writing and editing experience (e.g., scientific articles, news releases, blogs or similar)
• 1 + years of proven experience in SEO, with a solid understanding of tools such as AhRefs and Google Analytics
• Passionate about science and science communication
Education:
Essential: Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biology or related science
Technical Skills:
• Solid scientific background
• Demonstrate strong editing and writing skills
• Experienced using SEO tools to optimize content
• Experienced in researching topics in various fields of science
• Excellent understanding of content sourcing
• Social media savvy
